Structural characterization of TiO2/TiN O (δ-doping) heterostructures on (1 1 0)TiO2 substrates
2003
Abstract TiO2/TiNxOy δ-doping structures were grown on the top of (1 1 0)TiO2 rutile substrates by low pressure metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (LP-MOVPE) technique at 750 °C. The samples were analyzed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and X-ray diffraction techniques (rocking curves and φ-scans). The presence of satellites in the (1 1 0)TiO2 rocking curve revealed the epitaxial growth of 10 period δ-doping structures. The thickness of the TiO2 layers, 84 nm, was deduced from the satellites period. HRTEM observations showed around 1.5 nm thick δ-doping layers, where the presence of nitrogen was detected by EELS. The analy…
Finite element analysis of stress concentration between surface coated implants and non surface coated implants - An in vitro study.
2019
Background To determine qualitative comparison in stress distribution between surface coated implants and non surface coated implants using 2 different lengths and vertical, oblique, and lateral forces. Material and Methods 3 dimensional finite element study was carried out at first molar site with 4 surface coated and 4 non surface coated implants using mimic 8.11, solid edge 2004, hypermesh 9.0, and ansys12.1 software. Results The pattern of stress distribution was almost similar between vertical and oblique loading but varied with lateral loads between surface coated and non surface coated implants. As the length of the implants increased stress concentration had no significant variation…
A concept of mould spoilage prevention and acrylamide reduction in wheat bread: application of lactobacilli in combination with a cranberry coating
2018
In this study, a concept for wheat bread moulding prevention and acrylamide reduction has been developed. It includes various lactic acid bacteria (LAB), selected according to their technological, antifungal and acrylamide-lowering properties, in combination with an antifungal cranberry coating for wheat bread surface treatment. All the tested strains (Pediococcus pentosaceus LUHS183, Pediococcus acidilactici LUHS29, Lactobacillus paracasei LUHS244, Lactobacillus brevis LUHS173, Lactobacillus plantarum LUHS135 and Leuconostoc mesenteroides LUHS242) showed antifungal activities against Aspergillus nidulans, Penicillium funiculosum and Fusarium poae. However, L. brevis LUHS173 and Leu. mesent…
Rational Design of Thermoresponsive Microgel Templates with Polydopamine Surface Coating for Microtissue Applications.
2021
Functional microgels provide a versatile basis for synthetic in vitro platforms as alternatives to animal experiments. The tuning of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of synthetic microgels can be achieved by blending suitable polymers and formulating them such to reflect the heterogenous and complex nature of biological tissues. Based on this premise, this paper introduces the development of volume-switchable core-shell microgels as 3D templates to enable cell growth for microtissue applications, using a systematic approach to tune the microgel properties based on a deep conceptual and practical understanding. Microscopic microgel design, such as the tailoring of the microg…
Osseoconductivity of a Specific Streptavidin-Biotin-Fibronectin Surface Coating of Biotinylated Titanium Implants - A Rabbit Animal Study
2015
Background Biofunctionalized implant surfaces may accelerate bony integration and increase long-term stability. Purpose The aim of the study was to evaluate the osseous reaction toward biomimetic titanium implants surfaces coated with quasicovalent immobilized fibronectin in an in vivo animal model. Materials and Methods A total of 84 implants (uncoated [control 1, n = 36], streptavidin–biotin coated [test 1, n = 24], streptavidin–biotin–fibronectin coated [test 2, n = 24]) were inserted 1 mm supracortically in the proximal tibia of 12 rabbits. The samples were examined after 3 and 6 weeks. Total bone-implant contact (tBIC; %), bone-implant contact in the cortical (cBIC; %) and in the spong…
MTA HP Repair stimulates in vitro an homogeneous calcium phosphate phase coating deposition
2019
Background To study the mineralization capacity in vitro of the bioceramic endodontic material MTA HP Repair. Material and methods Bioactivity evaluation in vitro was carried out, by soaking processed cement disk in simulated body fluid (SBF) during 168 h. The cement surface was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Release to the SBF media of ionic degradation products was monitored using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Results FT-IR showed increasing formation of phosphate phase bands at 1097, 960, 607 and 570 cm-1 with prolonged SB…
Photocatalytic Properties of Cement-Based Plasters and Paints Containing Mineral Pigments
2010
Innovative cement-based premix products for surface coating of buildings that possess photocatalytic activity arouse great interest because of the results they can achieve in reducting air pollution and maintaining aesthetics. This photoactivity is induced by a photocatalyst, titanium dioxide, that can accelerate the oxidation processes of air pollutants, particularly nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds, which are mainly produced by incomplete combustion of fuel and are present in urban environments through the exhaust gases of motor vehicles. Surfaces that are coated with these products acquire a self-cleaning characteristic (maintenance of original color) because the decomposi…
Improved stability of black lipid membranes by coating with polysaccharide derivatives bearing hydrophobic anchor groups
1986
Abstract Black lipid membranes were coated with modified polysaccharides bearing hydrophobic palmitoyl and cholesteryl moieties. The changes in membrane structure were investigated using dipicrylamine, a lipophilic ion, as membrane probe. The kinetics of ion transport through the black lipid membranes were studied using the charge pulse relaxation technique. With this technique it was found that it is possible to detect the insertion of the hydrophobic anchor groups of the polysaccharides into the membrane bilayer. As a result of the surface coating, these membranes exhibit a drastically increased long-term stability.
Properties of treated papers and plastic film influencing ethyl ester transfer
2008
Abstract The objective of this work was to compare and understand the aroma compound barrier property of two impregnated–supercalendered papers, with or without surface coating, and one plastic film (BOPP) in standard conditions of temperature (25 °C) and relative humidity gradient (50%) for foodstuff storage. For that purpose, solubility, diffusivity and permeability coefficients were determined for a homologous series of ethyl esters with a range of physico-chemical properties and vapor concentrations. Whatever the aroma compound and its vapor concentration, the non-coated paper was the more permeable; the coated paper and BOPP presenting close and lower permeability values. The transfer …
Copper patterning on dielectrics by laser writing in liquid solution
1994
A technique suitable for laser induced deposition of copper on LiNbO 3 and glass is presented. Deposition is achieved from Cu salt solution mixed with glycerol, after coating the surface with a very thin metal film. High resolution and low electrical resistivity can be achieved, using laser power levels in the 20-mW range. The technique can be used for electrode and interconnect fabrication in integrated optical devices, as well as mask repair or microelectronics applications.
